didn't see this show unfortunately.

pearlstein is an artist that i didn't appreciate for a long time... but i've come around.

not as charming as sleigh at all...

it is interesting to note that his figures always come across as models, not PEOPLE the way they do with sleigh... compressed flattened and folded into the spaces, like heavy carpet.

Martin, that reminds me of the de kooning quote, "carpeting is the reason painting was invented". I guess I like fleshiness and to me it has always felt like Pearlstein paints skeletons.

what a great painting! ...in this case the weight bearing down... the design elements lifting at each load, Wow! You don't often see such visual language intelligence.
The last image looked like Hendrix somewhere, this image is Hendrix everywhere.
