Another word for that is hermetic, but lets just say op-aque - and move on to the allusions to Sea Fairing, and ships.

even the most radical acts of history are now absorbed into the status quo. money is old. when you address previous centuries you stir nostalgia from the investment community.
karen never does interviews, but she likes old ballet, castles, traveling about in a horse and buggy - and drawing on all aspects of bygone era's. it's the stuff old guard museums and collectors really dig.
she fills old buildings with new tributes to themselves, just like at Basel in 05. She's on a journey/fantasy, lives on her own, curators and rarely anybody has been there. Mystery plays a part.
The future is flexible (and therefore challenging) though the past seems to be set in stone. The present is ice-cream. Usually your artist will be in one or a few. The ones taking a stonemasons chisel to the pile of ice-cream are interesting, but not always.
Kilimniks work "fits" with museum/collector's 18th century mansion decor most of the time and that's how she seems to want it to be. Though she has inspired quite a range of artists in her time, they say. Peyton being the obvious example (though she'll tell you it's Hockney) and even Jim Hodges (by repetitive and thoughtful processes that lead to a poetic but accessible understanding of the more ephemeral moments of personal experience..
Bad Painting WAS a thesis - the term coined by Marcia Tucker for the show she curated of that name.
The works did not exist under that description before hand. And actually there are much better descriptions for what was happening in the work at the time, but the show makes the term currency, makes the collection a thing - AFTER the thesis.
Karen milks the tradition for all its worth, through its 80s East Village variants (Condo) into the 90s (Shaw's Thrift Store Paintings). She's late and slow alright. In fact she has to reduce herself to a childish ditz to sustain any perception of 'Good' still capable of being dissed.
Karen drifts on a cloud, Sets down, with the sun in her eyes

I think her stuff works better as installations. I take it that’s what the glitter on the walls was sort of meant to do – draw the walls into the perception of the work – treat the whole thing as an ensemble and give it a bit more of her favored *F*A*I*R*Y*T*A*L*E* spin.
Yeah well.
I don’t think it works here for various reasons, but in earlier ones when you have just a cluster of these little no-name knock-offs surrounded with furniture and stuff, the effect is quite different, kind of obsessive and insecure. It’s like someone trying to convince themselves they know where all this stuff goes, what it’s for, but they don’t really. Really they’re having trouble relating to any of it, much less discriminating quality.
Good, Bad – some of them are just trying to get into the ballpark .
In battlegrounds, the casting time for resurrection is 30 seconds. You can time it yourself if you want. Every 30 seconds, like clockwork, for the entirety of the match, a resurrection is cast. If you are standing in range when it is cast, you are resurrected.
If the Horde are rezzing in 5-10 seconds, it is because they are dying when there are 5-10 seconds left on the cast. It all depends on when you die
'Playing Well' should be everyone's motivation for playing a MMORPG. The RPG being the key there, specifically the 'G' part. What is the alternative to 'playing well'? 'Spending time'? Then take up crafting, or don't leave the cities, or better yet, dont' leave the forums because you're clearly not looking for a game, or a fantasy roleplaying game. You are looking for a community to socialise within. Plows crops under (leaving body; locals' bafflement reinforcing "affront" to rationality, ie he not his dad, as he feared) then waits thru winter (snowing under/burial), till Karen interrupts budget mtg w/ Annie (dwindling fortunes dissipating relation to life/reality) to announce "a man out there on the lawn" (personification of regeneration) - Shoeless Joe (aka Barefoot Boy of nature folklore), who takes position while Ray bats balls (silent mvmt Ritual indicating Ray has entered sacred time); Joe admires "wood" of Ray's bat (n.c.) + talks of phantom limbs (emasculated by scandal Tricky Dickie America, film's primacy of phallus over yoni not irrelevant issue) but is unable to cross perimeter (men can raise dead but can't give birth) of field Ray "built for you" (temple for resurrection of phantom phallus [shortly before Bush père declares Gulf War erased stigma of Viet Nam] + arena for sublimating homoerotic tendencies left wanting by father-shunting ), "others" (teammates) welcome too amnesty for all masculinity (deserved or not), tho denies it's heaven (unreadiness to acknowledge death).
watched the directors cut last night. huge improvement. voiceover was so distracting. jeez its a simple tale Deckard: Shakes? Me too. I get 'em bad. It's part of the business. Rachael: I'm not in the business. I am the business.
Well I guess if you say you are not part of history then boom, there you go, a bullshit dichotomy.
Looks like Derrida is coming up to market again if you are writing ad copy. Does anyone have the color palette for 2008? I missed the memo.
Oh and why dinnt anybodyz tell me bout teh bokz in da scholz?:
"..and if, according to Hardt and Negri's Empire, the rise of Empire is the end of national conflict, the "enemy" now, whoever he is, can no longer be ideological or national. The enemy now must be understood as a kind of criminal, as someone who represents a threat not to a political system or a nation but to the law. This is the enemy as a terrorist.... Hardt and Negri get this absolutely right when they say that in the "new order that envelops the entire space of... civilization", where conflict between nations has been made irrelevant, the "enemy" is simultaneously "banalized" (reduced to an object of routine police repression) and absolutized (as the Enemy, an absolute threat to the ethical order"[2])."[3]

the new museum is into unmonumental things now, despite them being as monumental as anything else around. clearly they've become over obsessed with NOT BEING A MUSEUM. Err, wha? Watch out for banal implosion.
remember curators (or rather, hurry up and forget) to pretend to NOT be doing what you are doing in order to facilitate what artists have always done. Then you will seem CLEVER. This is what it is about. CLEVERNESS. Sophistication wrapped up in a ball of sincerity is not sincere (but it is). We're all obsessed with gray. Everything is halfway between here and there but language is dichotomous. Oh no...
i didnt mean i wasnt a part of history because i am a woman. i meant i wasnt part of history because i'm not. and if it doesnt care about me, i dont care about it. i give as good as i get. is that dichotimous? i wouldnt worry about it.
A famous art collector is walking through the city when he notices a mangy cat lapping milk from a saucer in the doorway of a store. He does a double take.
He knows that the saucer is extremely old and very valuable, so he walks casually into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars.
The storeowner replies, "I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale."
The collector says, "Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I'll pay you 20 dollars for that cat."
And the owner says "Sold," and hands over the cat.
The collector continues, "Hey, for the twenty bucks I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it and it'll save me from having to get a dish."
The owner says, "Sorry buddy, but that's my lucky saucer. So far this week I've sold sixty-eight cats."
Johnny made a record, Went straight up to number one, Suddenly everyone loved to hear him sing the song. Watching the world go by, surprising it goes so fast. Johnny looked around him and said, 'Well, I made the big time at last'.
If you see something that looks like a star And it's shooting up out of the ground And your head is spinning from a loud guitar And you just can't escape from the sound Don't worry too much it'll happen to you We were children once playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound Of the low spark of high-heeled boys, high-heeled boys
If you had just a minute to breathe And they granted you one final wish Would you ask for something like another chance Or something similar as this Don't worry too much it'll happen to you As sure as your sorrows are joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all you're means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest Was the low spark of high-heeled boys, high-heeled boys
If I gave you everything that I owned And asked for nothing in return Would you do the same for me as I would for you Or take me for a ride And strip me of everything including my pride But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that disturbs you is only the sound Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
[Spoken] We can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine I say, we can go where we want to A place where they will never find And we can act like we come from out of this world Leave the real one far behind And we can dance
[Sung] We can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine I say, we can go where we want to A place where they will never find And we can act like we come from out of this world Leave the real one far behind And we can dance Danc¨¦e!
We can go when we want to The night is young and so am I And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet And surprise 'em with the victory cry Say, we can act if want to If we don't nobody will And you can act real rude and totally removed And I can act like an imbecile
[Refrain] I say, we can dance, we can dance Everything out of control We can dance, we can dance We're doing it from wall to wall We can dance, we can dance Everybody look at your hands We can dance, we can dance Everybody takin' the cha-a-a-ance
Safety dance Is it safe to dance Is it safe to dance
We can dance if we want to We've got all your life and mine As long as we abuse it, never gonna lose it Everything'll work out right I say, we can dance if we want to We can leave your friends behind 'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're no friends of mine
[Refrain]
Is it safe to dance, oh is it safe to dance [6x] Is it safe to dance
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure, How amazingly unlikely is your birth, And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space, 'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.
Or blue moon, if you are into that junk. Whatcha gonna do with all that junk, all that junk in your trunk? To my eye its coming at you as you float through space, spilling past you until the transmissions cease at the cornea.

6. LOADING THE LANGUAGE
the language of the totalist environment is characterized by the

"the language of non-thought"
words are given new meanings -- the outside world does not use the

oh yeah, you know it
ive always felt closest to the way that ab ex expressed a moment in time.
and if youve ever spent a lot of time around gay men youll know that too much judging by appearances is their tragedy. one of their tragedies.
you know what i'm saying?
that's on topic painter, really it is. I jsut can;t say it with words because

kilimnik is a phillistine.
Discuss.
Kilimnik has been to Phillistine.
I'm in love with the modern world too. What would Diderot do?
Diderot would probably use the photos in this show as a way of getting into the painting, the way he usually does.
is hubris a critical position at this point?
It is if it's got quotation marks.
I only wish I could have gotten to watch them dry.

Here, as elsewhere in her work, Kilimnik revels in the dual nature of folly itself: that which is both pitifully foolish and deliciously enchanting.

and its got all the shapes --circle, square, triangle mountains. She should paint logs (for line) but maybe that's too masculine. Its a feminine folly for sure--would Leo the 1st think it was funny?
yeah, glad you are coming round Norush. I think it's a pretty neat show. And I'm here. But I'll be there soon too!
back room was all new room - no? def. social sculpture kickin at the opening... was lovely for that 'moment' unclear how it holds up on revisit. Kostabi noted that she had a certain signature stroke that maintained itself even in ... im a bit lost in this case with the paired down subject matter.
I'm The Soul Alchemist I started doing alchemy at the age of 5...I learned how to use the Life and Death Transmutation circles...the actual circles were tatooed onto my two arms by my grandfather with the origional PHILOSOPHER STONE...I went into the Alchemy war at the age of 15...I was used as a top-secret weapon for the state and I killed so many people at that time...I escaped and then started to bring people back to life and hunt down the PHILOSOPHER STONE that tatooed my arms and the 9 state alchemist's leaders that were controling me when I was a slave for them...I already killed 4 of them...and I'm still looking for the other ones...
And here I prophesy: this brawl today,
Grown to this faction in the Temple garden,
Shall send, between the Red Rose and the White,
A thousand souls to death and deadly night.
Seesaw Margery Daw
Johnny shall have a new master
He shall earn but a penny a day
Because he can't work any faster
We practice selective annihilation of mayors
And government officials
For example to create a vacuum
Then we fill that vacuum

even the most radical acts of history are now absorbed into the status quo. money is old. when you address previous centuries you stir nostalgia from the investment community.
karen never does interviews, but she likes old ballet, castles, traveling about in a horse and buggy - and drawing on all aspects of bygone era's. it's the stuff old guard museums and collectors really dig.
she fills old buildings with new tributes to themselves, just like at Basel in 05.
The terrible heritage of Bad Painting is the diminishing return on pursuing and failing The Good.
Tucker shrewdly did not attempt to sustain with her thesis.
Formalism cannot be circumvented indefinitely.
If you think Karen's puritanical, here come CAP.
Bad Painting was a must. It happened before the thesis. Still happening. Desparate for a false unity? Give it time.
Karen doesnt seem to be directly in the legacy, she's too conceptual
In 1978 it was a must. In 2008 it’s just musty.
Karen drifts on a cloud,
Sets down, with the sun in her eyes
Nature: it's such a nicher.
I know what bad painting was. i was taught by one of the bad painters.
what do you know about good? Evince me.

New York, I Love You
But you're bringing me down
New York, I Love You
But you're bringing me down
Like a rat in a cage
Pulling minimum wage
New York, I Love You
But you're bringing me down
New York, you're safer
And you're wasting my time
Our records all show
You are filthy but fine
But they shuttered your stores
When you opened the doors
To the cops who were bored
Once they'd run out of crime
New York, you're perfect
Don't please don't change a thing
Your mild billionaire mayor's
Now convinced he's a king
So the boring collect
I mean all disrespect
In the neighborhood bars
I'd once dreamt I would drink
New York, I Love You
But you're freaking me out
There's a ton of the twist
But we're fresh out of shout
Like a death in the hall
That you hear through your wall
New York, I Love You
But you're freaking me out
New York, I Love You
But you're bringing me down
New York, I Love You
But you're bringing me down
Like a death of the heart
Jesus, where do I start?
But you're still the one pool
Where I'd happily drown
And oh.. Take me off your mailing list
For kids that think it still exists
Yes, for those who think it still exists
Maybe I'm wrong
And maybe you're right
Maybe I'm wrong
And myabe you're right
Maybe you're right
Maybe I'm wrong
And just maybe you're right
And Oh..
Maybe mother told you true
And they're always be something there for you
And you'll never be alone
But maybe she's wrong
And maybe I'm right
And just maybe she's wrong
Maybe she's wrong
And maybe I'm right
And if so, is there?

-Derrida
Hardt and Negri get this absolutely right when they say that in the "new order that envelops the entire space of... civilization", where conflict between nations has been made irrelevant, the "enemy" is simultaneously "banalized" (reduced to an object of routine police repression) and absolutized (as the Enemy, an absolute threat to the ethical order"[2])."[3]

and julian's painting on maps.
the new museum is into unmonumental things now, despite them being as monumental as anything else around. clearly they've become over obsessed with NOT BEING A MUSEUM.
Oh no...
(fade to black)
Julian's always been painting on maps. It's his way of being a rebel.
Or is that terrorist now?
i didnt mean i wasnt a part of history because i am a woman. i meant i wasnt part of history because i'm not. and if it doesnt care about me, i dont care about it. i give as good as i get. is that dichotimous? i wouldnt worry about it.
Don't you look at me.
Watch the hands.
Johnny made a record, Went straight up to number one,
Suddenly everyone loved to hear him sing the song.
Watching the world go by, surprising it goes so fast.
Johnny looked around him and said, 'Well, I made the big time at last'.
Or at least that's what people were saying at the nightly parties in the grand palazzos.
If you see something that looks like a star
And it's shooting up out of the ground
And your head is spinning from a loud guitar
And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much it'll happen to you
We were children once playing with toys
And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys, high-heeled boys
If you had just a minute to breathe
And they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance
Or something similar as this
Don't worry too much it'll happen to you
As sure as your sorrows are joys
And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all you're means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest
Was the low spark of high-heeled boys, high-heeled boys
If I gave you everything that I owned
And asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you
Or take me for a ride
And strip me of everything including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys
And the sound that disturbs you is only the sound
Of the low spark of high-heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced
While you're living beyond all you're means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead
By a gun that didn't make any noise
But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest
Was the low spark of high-heeled boys, high-heeled boys
