i am so sick of hearing about columbia! painter, is there a way when you post the pictures that you could also say the size and other info? am i missing where this information is? im not the best on computers

columbia is simply the hottest program around. With its legacy of Beat poet dropouts (One of whom, Gregory Corso, also attended the highly reccomended closed campus at Danemora, a top notch ivy-esque school) and radicalism (the may 1968 protests)it has a fine pedigree. Need I mention the Van Dorens of Quizz Show fame? Note that it costs 64 thousand dollars to get a MFA there - oh the irony! Or that Gostbusters one AND two feature the univerity prominently? I love the ESP test scene, don't you? Altered States was also filmed there. AWESOME.

Recently Columbia has gotten a lot of press, and deservedly so - some of the best painters in the United States are studying there.
If the Greater NY show at PS1 was a parliament, I think you'd see "Columbiaistan" jerry mandered to include the courtyard and the snack bar.
I kind of like them on the Briggs Robinson website, but as ww said "they were quite icky in person" (I haven't seen them). One of my biggest pet peeves is when I see art online or in a reproduction that looks great from the jpeg or print but in person they don't look nearly as good. Good exapmle is Les Rogers' show now at Leo Koenig. Looks great on the website and the invitation! in person... eeeeh.
Anon, we can discuss Columbia. I think it is a good school. I like artist work that have studied there. But it is pretty pricey. If you can afford it go for it. Than you can be a NYC painter and I will find you and post you. Maybe you already are.

B.W. I am going to post Les Rogers soon so lets talk then. I wanted to give people a chance to see the show. But I know what you mean. Not in Rogers case but in general, I have been let down many times from reproductions.

Kanishka is a nyc guy. He had a show at envoy gallery in october. garth weiser is interesting, albeit a little photoshop-y. But they're nice. I kinda don't mind this jpeg. It seems like a ballsy mixture of image and paint-style. I'd like to go see the show even if I have to schlep up to 29th street. I hope it really isn't to icky in person as w.w. says (didn't get a chance to tell you great painting w.w. - many new points for team abstraction.) All right, who's next?
has potential-a glib facility with a brush-but you cant just stick a damn flower on everything-it's not really felt,except the self portrait,which is very good.
