I have never heard of this fellow. I like the look of it. Funny. Thanks painter.

He had a show last spring at Edward Thorp gallery. It was one of if not the best painting shows I saw last year. It is hard to find good images of his work.

How do you find such good painters, painter? This image looks great. Very Stettheimer-esque. But wierder.

It is getting harder and harder to find good painters. But I know they are out there. They may not all be on the web or with a gallery and so I can't find them. I like suggestions.

yes, I don't go to his gallery that often as the painting there tends to be a bit 'conservative' but it just goes to show there are great things to be seen at almost every gallery...

I had never been there but a friend suggested the show and I am so glad he did.
BB I assume you are a painter have I posted you yet?

Ed Thorp is always surprising, yes. Think of Judy Linhares. I love her work.

Well you've already posted most of my friends and associates, painter. I'd hate to lose my anonymity, but yes I'm a painter too - in a wierd minimalist way. It's hard to find the time to look at stuff, but i'm hoping to get out on saturday and look around. I've heard good thing about the Redon show already...

Judy Linhares thanks for reminding me of her. I saw her work at Feigen that show David Humphrey curated. Is she a New Yorker?

Anonymous said...

Yes she is. She is a great painter and everyone should know about her. She's been doing her thing for a long long time, total pre-cursor to Dana Schutz. She's also an amazing, glowy great person. Definitely in the under-rated category.

other cool nyc painters that i heart:

andrea champlin
adam hurwitz
jeremy stenger

all show at michael steinberg

Hope it's ok to mention like that. Just the people in the neighborhood that may be under-known but are very special.

I just thought of another:

Bill Adams. Shows at KS Art.

He is figurative. His new work is amazing, I don't know if it's up on the site yet but I think he is having a show there this spring. Excellent painter.

Thanks MM. I will look these painters up. I have looked at Michael Steinberg's site before but got overwhelmed by the number of artist he represents.

Bill Adams is great. I can vouche for that...

Michael Steinberg's roster is overwhelming. It is. But within are some greats. Also Amanda Church is one I forgot to mention. In my opinion.
