Chime in anytime to stop me i can keep going and going and going and going. Put another dime in the juke box baby and ill deliver a bubble full of joy, an inexpensive plastic toy, maybe a fake tatoo one mindet fits all, you dont mind do you? Hoping for the rubber rat instead you get a daisy chain hoping for another daisy to complete itself with. Was this work hung in a subversive context so it could interogate itself? Did it situate its elf on the top shelf and larry? WHos larry? Hes not in the picture.

Hmmm, all that study, anyway, my news is that we have these new handsets that you plug into your keitai mobile telephone. They are cool, they come in four colors and they are replicas of the real thing. The don't fit into your bag or your pocket but look and work really cool. Also just out are these phone covers. They are replicas of the hand phones of about fifteen years ago. They are huge but not heavy like the originals. Your sleek minimal handy phone just fits in and you close the hatch and there you are, huge... without the iron table and the pool, but almost with everything else. Art and life are the same, so it seems no matter where you are. We look to the past out of fascination, humor, so, how did the tuna get in the can? It swam there? And so fresh!
Whoa george, that not-mike thing was insane. I agree that his work is seriously indebted to Kelley. In fact I have a Mike Kelley book that he wrote the introduction to.
He was active in the NY scene, a friend of Jackson Pollock and as I recall, wealthy which worked against him. Harvard has some drawings online but I couldn't find a picture of the painting I was thinking of when Zip posted the Kelly link.
The Ossorio Foundation has a nice installation view of some works but not many individual pictures.
Everybody should do some bas relief type stuff. Its a great way to express yourself. You can go with melancholy nostalgia like cornell - you just cant get that with paint no matter how much texturizer and extender you add to your acrylics.

Full of piss and vinegar, I was a regular volcano at the science fair, thought I could make it anywhere as long as I had a good idea but i guess ideas just grow in the air like birdshit.

be it here noticed that I declair any piece of art resembling folk art made by a fine artist to be folk art and that artist to be a folk artist for the duration of the period they devoted to the said piece, including Mike Kelley, ironic or not. Fuck that dude.
I am not pissed off by this persons work. I am not emotional about it on any level. That is not a good way to discuss it in my view. It is a type theory based work that I find uninspiring and trite in it's criteria of banality.
